Ear infections are common in children and often get better on their own. Our pharmacist can examine the ear and advise on treatment.

Who can use this service
Children and young people aged 1 to 17. It's free if you don't usually pay for prescriptions. If you do, any medicine supplied costs the standard NHS prescription charge.
This service needs an in-person visit, as the pharmacist will look inside the ear.
Common symptoms
- Pain inside the ear
- A high temperature
- Rubbing or pulling at the ear
- Being less responsive or not eating as usual
How it works
- Walk in or book. Ask to see the pharmacist. You don't need a GP appointment or referral.
- Consultation. In a private room, the pharmacist asks about your symptoms and medical history and checks whether you meet the NHS criteria.
- Treatment or referral. If suitable, you'll get treatment and aftercare advice. If not, we'll give you advice or refer you to the right service.
When to get urgent help
Call 111 or go to A&E if you have swelling or redness behind the ear, a stiff neck, or if your child seems very unwell. In an emergency, call 999.
