Most insect bites clear up on their own, but a bite can become infected. Our pharmacist can check the bite and advise on treatment.

Who can use this service
Adults and children aged 1 and over. It's free if you don't usually pay for prescriptions. If you do, any medicine supplied costs the standard NHS prescription charge.
Common symptoms
- Redness or swelling that is spreading
- The bite feels hot or painful
- Pus coming from the bite
- Feeling generally unwell
How it works
- Walk in or book. Ask to see the pharmacist. You don't need a GP appointment or referral.
- Consultation. In a private room, the pharmacist asks about your symptoms and medical history and checks whether you meet the NHS criteria.
- Treatment or referral. If suitable, you'll get treatment and aftercare advice. If not, we'll give you advice or refer you to the right service.
When to get urgent help
Call 111 or go to A&E if you have swelling of your face, lips or throat, or difficulty breathing. In an emergency, call 999.
